.ae stays the premium extension — and the price spread is the widest we track

For a business trading in the United Arab Emirates, .ae is not an alternative to .com — it is a signal of local presence, and it is priced accordingly. Every registrar in our table charges more for .ae than for any mainstream generic extension.
The spread is what makes it worth comparing. Between the cheapest and the most expensive .ae seller we track, the annual difference is larger than the entire first-year cost of a .com at most registrars. Unlike a generic extension, there is no promotional first year to soften it: .ae is generally sold at the same price in year one and at renewal.
Why the extension is priced this way
Country extensions are administered under national rules, sold through a smaller set of accredited channels, and carry less price competition than the generic market. Fewer sellers and no discount war produce exactly the pattern our tables show: high, stable and inconsistent between registrars.
Practical guidance
Register .ae where the renewal is lowest, not where the interface is most familiar. Budget for it as a fixed annual cost rather than a promotion to be renegotiated. And if the business also needs a global name, treat .com and .ae as two separate purchases with two separate price comparisons — the cheapest registrar for one is rarely the cheapest for the other.
